Update: One Man Dead After Shooting On Chelton & Fountain
Colorado Springs police were investigating a deadly shooting on the city’s southeast side Friday night.
Police said the shooting happened at South Chelton Road and East Fountain Boulevard.
Northbound Chelton Road was shut down along the entire length of the block, because police say they are still trying to pinpoint exactly where the shooting happened.
The area that was cordoned off includes a strip mall containing a laundromat, a convenience store, and a restaurant.
Police say a man, in his 20’s, was shot and taken to the hospital where he died.
Witnesses tell Newschannel 13 that they heard three shot ring out, and saw a white pick-up truck speeding away from the scene.
Police say the man who shot the victim is white, between the ages of 25-30, stands 5’6″ and was last seen wearing a light colored shirt and dark pants.
Officers say they have about 40 witnesses that they will be interviewing over the course of this investigation.
Police confirm that this is the 29th homicide of 2011 making this the deadliest year on record for Colorado Springs.
