UPDATE: Ft. Carson Soldier Accused Of Having Child Porn

An arrest warrant reveals that a computer repairman called police on a Ft. Carson soldier accused of having child pornography.

The warrant says that Radoslaw Jan Szczepanski, 47, was getting his computer repaired at S&D Computer Repair in Fountain back in April. Police say the owner found what he thought were naked pictures of children. Police say they found over 6,000 digital pictures of nude adult women, but also several images of girls who looked between 12 and 17 years old.

Police say Szczepanski’s internet history showed he visited teen porn websites a minimum of 78 times in March alone. The arrest warrant says that Szczepanski’s ex-wife told police she had caught him viewing child pornography when they were stationed in Germany between 2006 and 2007.

KRDO NewsChannel 13 confirmed with officials at Ft. Carson that Szczepanski served in the Army there. He was a Sergeant first class and his duty status was awaiting retirement but has now been changed to under civilian confinement. His Facebook page says he’s with the U.S. Army Special Forces Command.

Police said they had information that Szczepanski may have weapons and explosives in his home on the 9400 block of Summer Meadow Drive. Fountain and Colorado Springs police, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office and the CSPD bomb squad entered the home Tuesday and found an inactive grenade of unknown origin. Police said it was X-rayed and taken away for destruction.

Several neighbors told KRDO Newschannel13 that Szczepanski has shown some odd behavior since he recently moved into the neighborhood. Molly Sawyer said she’s called the police on him twice, once when he cornered and threatened her and again when she heard gunshots coming from his backyard.

“A few weeks ago, my brother and I were checking the mail and he was shooting a gun off in his backyard,” said Sawyer. “We ran home and called police.”

A background check showed Szczepanski has no prior criminal record in Colorado.

Police say Szczepanski turned himself in Tuesday after an arrest warrant was issued. According to the El Paso Co. Sheriff’s Office website, he remains in jail on a felony charge of Sexual Exploitation of a Child. His bond is set at $1,000.
