Donations desperately needed for Salvation Army
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) - The Salvation Army still needs more donations this holiday season. The organization is struggling to make sure every kid in southern Colorado has a gift to unwrap this year.
According to the Salvation Army, the nonprofit is about $55,400 behind on its fundraising goal for the year. "We use Red Kettle donations to help people all year long," says Captain Doug Hanson. "Right now, we need donations to bring the miracle of Christmas to those who are hungry, those who have lost their jobs, those who hope to give their children at least one toy on Christmas morning. But when Christmas is over, those people still face hunger, job loss, discouragement and we desperately want to help them."
If its fundraising goals aren't met, the Salvation Army faces the potential of having to cut back on services to the community. So, it's asking for the community’s help keeping those programs running. If you see a Red Kettle, you can donate change, cash or checks.
You can also donate with your smartphone at every kettle site using Kettle Pay, which is available for iPhone and Android devices. Shoppers can simply “bump” or scan their phone at Red Kettles to make a customizable online donation. The funds will be distributed to local Salvation Army units based on the donor’s billing ZIP code.
