CSPD investigates fatal shooting at Westview Apartments
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- One man is dead after a fatal shooting Thursday evening at the Westview Apartments in southeast Colorado Springs. Another person was injured but is expected to survive.
Police received the call about the shooting at the complex on University Drive around 7:19 p.m.
When officers arrived, they found one man on the ground and several shell casings nearby.
The victim was immediately rushed to UCHealth Memorial Center for treatment, but he passed away from his injures, according to a CSPD lieutenant.
Police say a second person was also shot but their injuries were not life-threatening.
Witnesses on scene told KRDO some apartments were hit by bullets, but there were no other reported injuries.
"They heard gunshots, and the last gunshot that they did hear, it went bing bing!" said Walter Black. "This is a good area, it's just that tragedies happen.
Police say the suspect is still at large but there is still no description of the suspect or the vehicle involved in the shooting. There does not seem to be any immediate threat to the public but officers say they will be at the scene throughout the night.
