New fire near Fort Collins causes evacuations
LARIMER COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) — People are being evacuated after a wildfire ignited northwest of Fort Collins Saturday afternoon.
The Lewstone Fire is burning between Hwy 14 and Rist Canyon about 3.5 miles west of US 287. It’s estimated to be about 30 acres large according to the Poudre Fire Authority.
The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office said it doesn’t know the cause of the fire. The sheriff’s office said two air tankers, two heavy helicopters and 80 firefighters were either already there or on the way to the fire.
The Pine Acres subdivision northwest of Horsetooth Reservoir is under mandatory evacuation orders. You can see a map of evacuated areas on https://nocoalert.org/.
The American Red Cross of Colorado opened an evacuation center in La Porte, Colorado to help evacuees.
The evacuation center is at the Cache La Poudre Middle School located at 3515 W. County Rd. 54 G, La Porte CO.
