Colorado Springs restaurants maneuver first weekend at 50% capacity

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Tuesday, Gov. Jared Polis released the fourth amendment to the "safer at home" order, which allows in-person dining at restaurants.

According to the amendment, it encourages restaurants to continue offering curbside pickup and delivery, including alcoholic pickup and delivery services. On Wednesday, restaurants resumed in-person dining at 50% capacity or 50 people, whichever is fewer bodies for that restaurant.

Local restaurants in Colorado Springs have continued to follow strict criteria for social distancing measures to protect the public and employees of the restaurants.

KRDO spoke with employees at Western Omelette, a staple neighborhood diner known for it's hearty Mexican and American eats, who say they miss the personal connection with customers.

Angel Borders, a server-manager at the Western Omelette on Walnut Street, says, "Now we’re not getting to have that much personal contact with our customers which makes it look like we’re not doing our job like we used to.”

Borders hopes to see more customers through the Western Omelette's doors soon. Even with restaurants limited to 50% capacity, the eatery experienced a mixed Saturday turnout. Borders says the goal is “to get [their] customers back in here and know that we’re playing it safe and it’s a safe place for them to come eat.”
