Green Beret treks 50 miles through Colorado Springs in Memorial Day ruck march
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Tightening up his rucksack and getting an early start to his day, Active Duty Green Beret Chad Conley is honoring his fallen brothers in a special way.
“We are rucking 50 miles for our fallen Green Berets and we are calling it 50 for the fallen. It’s a time to be able to give back to those who have given the ultimate sacrifice and giving a little fo yourself,” said Conley.
Not only is Conley doing this in the memory of fallen soldiers, he’s also raising money for a special organization.
“The Special Forces Foundation is a non-profit organization that gives 100 percent of its donations back to gold star families, those who have lost a family member in the line of duty and to Green Berets who are wounded, ill or injured or in need,” Conley said.
Conley thinks it will take him 10 hours to complete the ruck. He says anyone who wants to can join him on his journey.
“The route will be from Dublin, down Peterson to Constitution I’ll be up Tutt and back to Barnes and back up Peterson. If you see me out here and want to honk, wave, join in, please come on out."
And on this day, Conley doesn’t want his 50-mile trek to take away from what’s really important: remembering those who sacrificed their lives for this country.
Conley said, “But to do this on Memorial Day and have people from around the world joining in, that’s what it is, because now we are actually memorializing these people and giving a little of ourselves.”
