Fatal crash on Hwy 24 east of Peyton under investigation
EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- At least one person is confirmed dead after a crash on Highway 24 Wednesday afternoon just east of Peyton between Log and McClelland Road.
The Colorado State Patrol reports the driver of a Hyundai Elantra tried to pass another car, but it collided head-on with an Oldsmobile SUV traveling westbound. The collision caused a Kia Rio to hit the SUV from behind -- pushing it off the road.
20-year-old Joshua Landry, of Colorado Springs, is identified as the driver of the Hyundai. According to the State Patrol, he died at the scene and was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
The driver and three passengers in the Oldsmobile SUV were transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries, while the driver and two passengers in the Kia only sustained minor injuries.
The State Patrol reports alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors in this crash, but it remains under investigation.
