Motorcyclist who died in crash at Hancock and Monica ID’d

MGN

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- A fatal crash Sunday afternoon in the area of Hancock Expressway and Monica Drive West prompted an investigation by the Major Crash Team and closed the area for several hours.

In a press release Tuesday, police identified the person who died as a motorcyclist, 29-year-old Joshua D. Sellers. The responding officers found Sellers unresponsive and he was declared dead at the scene.

On Sunday, a duty lieutenant with CSPD told KRDO that investigators initially believed this crash to be a hit and run. But in the updated release Tuesday, CSPD said the crash appears to be a result of excessive speed. The motorcyclist is believed to have lost control and crashed, said police. He was not wearing a helmet.

This is the eighth traffic-related fatality and third motorcycle-related fatality in Colorado Springs in 2020.

This investigation is still active and ongoing, anyone with information or who was a witness to this crash is asked to call the Colorado Springs Police Department at (719) 444-7000.
