COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Dana Ikener went to UCHealth Memorial Hospital Central's Emergency Department on March 23. Ikener remembers telling her son, "I'll call you when I'm ready to come home."

Returning home wouldn't be until a month later. Ikener had contracted a serious case of COVID-19, and the last thing she remembers was getting her vital signs taken at the emergency department that day.

She woke up while being extubated two weeks later. “The staff said two weeks had gone by. I didn’t know what to think. That’s a lot to comprehend. When the staff started telling me what had taken place, I just could not believe it," Ikener said.

Ikener thanked the UCHealth for their support during this time. The Colorado native has recovered from COVID-19, and is now excited to spend time with her two children, sisters and extended family.
