Colorado Springs residents claim they were shorted in stimulus checks, or IRS has wrong banking information

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- As federal stimulus checks start to become available in millions of bank accounts, some Springs residents are reporting shortages.

Alyssa Sursa says she didn't receive a $500 credit for a 17-month-old baby girl. She can't reach anyone over the phone to fix it.

She's in good company with thousands reporting similar issues.

Destiny Tafoya says the IRS tracking website is using the wrong number for her bank account. It has the last four of her social security number, instead of an account number. She's having a hard time reaching anyone at the IRS to remedy the problem.

Dozens of viewers are telling KRDO they either haven't received their check, are missing money, or the account numbers listed on the IRS site are wrong.

For parents, like Sursa who claim their $500 credit didn't come through on their stimulus check might have to claim their dependents seperately.

On the IRS website, under the "Non-filers: Enter your payment here," there is a special note at the bottom of the column reading, "people in these groups who have qualifying children under age 17 can use this application to claim the $500 payment per child."

It appears parents will have to create a profile, just as non-taxpayers do to claim their dependents.

Unfortunately, for people like Tafoya, she might have to wait longer for the IRS to figure out they have the wrong bank account number.

The checks received this week are part of the first round. The treasury department has not said when they'll be done sending out the stimulus checks.
