Pedestrian, driver cited after crash on Nevada Avenue near I-25, police say

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- A pedestrian and a driver were cited after a crash Sunday night on Nevada Avenue near Interstate 25, police said.

According to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD), officers were called just before 9:30 p.m. at Brookside Street and Nevada Avenue for a crash.

Police said the driver who struck the pedestrian first stopped but then left, only to return to the scene.

Someone who saw the crash stopped to render aid to the pedestrian who was hit by the car, police said. Witnesses told investigators that they saw the person cross the street "mid-block, against the green light for northbound traffic" before getting struck, police said.

CSPD said the pedestrian was treated at a hospital for serious injuries.

Police said the pedestrian and the driver were cited for traffic-related charges but did not further elaborate.
