Four killed, including three children after active shooter situation at school in Bend, Oregon

Bend Police Department

BEND, Ore. (KRDO) -- Police are responding to reports of an active shooter at Silver Rail Elementary School, according to our sister station KTVZ.

CNN is reporting four people, including three children were killed in the shooting, according to a law enforcement source.

The Bend Police Department (BPD) provided an update, saying the shooter was dead and may have been shot and killed by a bystander, according to a press conference. Police say they received a report of a shot fired into a car around 1 p.m. Oregon time, according to CNN.

According to ABC News, the first call reported a man had shot into a car, and then multiple 911 calls were made saying a person had entered the building and begun shooting.

ABC News reports at 1:02 p.m. PST, BPD officers were on scene and seconds later the officers reported the suspect had been shot and killed, possibly by a bystander.

BPD says at least two people were taken to the hospital.

They say the school had been placed on lockdown and they had set up a reunification point for families at Journey Church, KTVZ reported. KTVZ is reporting a large police presence on scene at the school.

ABC News says the Bend-La Pine Schools Superintendent released the following statement:

"We are stunned and heartbroken by this senseless tragedy," Superintendent Steven Cook said. "We extend our deepest sympathy to the families and to everyone affected by this violence. No words can adequately express the grief our community is experiencing. Our immediate priorities are caring for our students and staff and assisting law enforcement and emergency responders."
