UCHealth Memorial Hospital North breaks ground on $463 million expansion

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- UCHealth broke ground Tuesday on a major expansion at Memorial Hospital North.

According to officials, the $463 million expansion will double the size of the hospital and add several new features. That includes new operating rooms, emergency department exam rooms, extra spaces for patients and staff and hundreds of new parking spots.

UCHealth says the expansion is vital as the hospital has been operating at near or full capacity for years now.

"Because of the expansion, we'll not only be able to take care of our current growing needs, but also the need of our communities as they continue to grow for decades to come," Lonnie Cramer, President and CEO of UCHealth Southern Region said.

This will be the hospital's third major expansion since it opened in 2007.
