BJ’s Velvet Freez to open third location in Old Colorado City

OLD COLORADO CITY, Colo. (KRDO) -- A fan-favorite Colorado Springs ice cream shop is opening a third location, this time in Old Colorado City!

BJ's Velvet Freez, a local favorite spot for soft serve ice cream will open the new location on the west side of town, near the intersection of Colorado Avenue and 22nd Street.

The ice cream spot first opened in the 1950s, on the corner of Palmer Park and Union. Earlier this year, a second location was opened not far from there at the corner of Circle and Platte.

"I wanted to stay local to the Springs area, but we do see ourselves growing into maybe four or five locations down the road," Corey Houger, owner of BJ's Velvet Freez said.

"We'll just take each location step by step," Stan Kelley, a franchisee of BJ's Velvet Freez said. "Right now, the community has been awesome in supporting us."

The new location is expected to open around spring, in March of 2027.
