Four arrested after disturbance at city council data center meeting, CSPD says

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) says four people were arrested after a "disturbance" at a city council meeting regarding a potential data center.

CSPD says the disturbance involved audience members and CSPD officers at the Project Taurus City Council meeting at the Pikes Peak Center for the Arts.

A KRDO13 photographer on scene saw officers use a non-lethal weapon on a member of the crowd. Video from the KRDO13 crew also shows what appears to be someone biting a CSPD officer during the exchange.

According to CSPD, a woman began disrupting the city council meeting with a megaphone. Officers say they tried to speak with her and warn her to stop disrupting, or she would be asked to leave. CSPD says when officers approached her, another person tried to stop officers from speaking to her.

A man then approached an officer from behind and grabbed him by his vest, pulling him down, according to CSPD. A physical struggle ensued, and two more people, another man and woman, joined in the struggle. During the struggle, CSPD says a man bit an officer on the hand.

A taser was deployed in an effort to "gain compliance," according to CSPD. CSPD says during the incident, one officer lost a pair of glasses and another's body-worn camera had come off his vest. Investigators determined someone involved in the struggle had picked both items up and concealed them.

In total, four people were arrested:

• Caleb Miller, 26. Charged with second-degree assault on a peace officer. Miller was booked into the El Paso County Jail, according to CSPD.
• Christianna Miller, 26. Charged with obstructing a peace officer. She was booked into the El Paso County Jail.
• Jacob Wilkinson, 23. Charged with misdemeanor theft after he was found in possession of the body-worn camera. He was issued with a summons and released.
• Wendy Jerado, 24. Charged with obstruction of a peace officer. She was served with a summons and released.

Jerado was arrested after the meeting; CSPD says during it, they gained evidence to have probable cause to arrest her. CSPD says she was the woman with the megaphone.

CSPD says the investigation remains active, and all charges are allegations until proven guilty in court.
