Colorado Springs park getting ‘Wind Phone,’ a device that lets people share messages with loved ones they have lost

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- A park in Colorado Springs is getting a new device that allows people to share messages with someone they have lost in a dedicated quiet space.

The City of Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department, along with Pikes Peak Hospice and Palliative Care, says a new "Wind Phone" will be put into Nancy Lewis Park as part of its 30th anniversary.

According to officials, the Wind Phone will be a disconnected telephone line with a private booth that allows people to share messages aloud with loved ones they have lost.

"We hope this Wind Phone becomes a place where anyone experiencing loss can pause, remember someone they love and miss and find a moment of comfort in a beautiful outdoor setting," Susan Edmondson, Pikes Peak Hospice Foundation Executive Director said in a press release.

According to officials, there are more than 600 Wind Phones already in service around the world.

The park is being recognized for 30 years of service on Thursday, Sept. 10, when the new phone will be unveiled. The park and phone are located at 2615 North Logan Avenue.
