Man wanted for attempted murder caught hiding under air mattress

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- A man wanted for attempted murder and kidnapping, among other charges, has been arrested after hiding under an air mattress inside a home, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD).

CSPD says its Violent Offender Fugitive Task Force (VOFTF) had been working to apprehend 33-year-old Brandon Pierce, who had a warrant for his arrest for attempted murder, second-degree assault, third-degree assault, kidnapping, victim/witness intimidation, and violation of a protection order.

Detectives were able to find Pierce at a local Home Depot returning a rented van, and then followed another car he got into through various locations. According to CSPD, the car was doing burnouts and didn't appear to have a specific destination in mind. VOFTF says it was helped by tactical teams, a K9, and a Real Time Crime Center drone.

The vehicle Pierce was in eventually pulled into a house in the 4100 block of Cougar Place. The vehicle Pierce was in left, and he was not inside, so detectives set up containment on the residence and attempted to locate the vehicle.

The car was eventually stopped, and the driver told CSPD Pierce was still inside the house on Cougar Place. Detectives contacted an occupant of the house, who said Pierce wasn't inside but let CSPD search the home. A drone was used to clear the basement, but they were unable to find Pierce.

CSPD says they tried to clear the basement another way and still did not find Pierce, so officers obtained a search warrant, and a K9 was used. K9 Tre was released and found Pierce hiding under an air mattress.

K9 Tre made contact with Pierce on his arm, and he was taken into custody. He was treated by medical personnel on scene and then taken to a local hospital for further treatment before being booked into the El Paso County Jail.
