The sound of success: Pueblo South bringing energy to preseason

PUEBLO, Colo. — The Pueblo South Colts are clearly having plenty of fun this preseason.

Whether they're breaking into song or keeping the energy high with constant chatter and enthusiasm, this year's Colts are showing a level of chemistry that extends well beyond the football field.

They can play as well as they can sing, one thing quickly becomes apparent while watching Pueblo South practice: this is a team full of personalities.

"We got some people, some crazy dudes. That's good, you know, for football," junior Israel Allen said. "We got people that show a lot of emotion and it's a good factor."

That emotion fuels the Colts throughout every practice.

"If we're not going hard at it, if we're not barking at each other on every play, I feel like our team's down," junior Desmond Burton said. "We're screaming in the huddle, making sure everybody's getting hyped before practice, after practice, all of it."

While the singing and playful moments showcase the team's personality, the foundation of Pueblo South's culture is built on leadership.

Senior Landen Cordova has embraced that role as one of the team's veteran voices.

"I love the competition, I really do," Cordova said. "But I really want to make people better because all these people from the Springs and everybody, they look down on us because we're Pueblo, Colorado, a small place. So we got to make each other better."

That mindset helped fuel a successful 2025 campaign. The Colts finished 9-3 and went undefeated in league play, a season head coach Ryan Goddard believes reflected the team's full potential.

"I think that was one of the things that was so cool about that," Goddard said. "We got to where we were supposed to be."

Now, Pueblo South is focused on doing it again.

The Colts enter the new season motivated by the expectations of others and determined to prove they belong among the state's top programs.

"Everybody doubts us, but we like it that way," Allen said. "We're ready to come out here and work and prove ourselves."

With strong leadership, plenty of confidence and a locker room that's already in sync, Pueblo South hopes its chemistry translates into another memorable season on the field.
