Highway 24 closed in both directions between Goldfield Campground and 8th Street after crash

OLD COLORADO CITY, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) says Highway 24 is closed in both directions between Goldfield Campground and 8th Street due to a crash.

The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) says officers responded to a head-on crash in the area where people were already receiving medical attention. An investigation showed a car travelling westbound when it crossed over the median and hit a car before hitting a second car head-on.

CSPD says three people were taken to the hospital, and two other people were treated on scene. According to officials, one party had serious, possibly life-threatening injuries.

According to a CDOT map, the road was closed around 9:30 p.m. on Thursday. CSPD says all lanes were blocked at South 21st Street, and traffic was closed for over three hours.

Westbound lanes are closed at 14th Street and eastbound lanes are closed at 21st Street, CSPD says.

CSPD says the cause of the crash is still under investigation.
