Over 10 miles of I-25 northbound reopened after crash shut down highway

LARKSPUR, Colo. (KRDO) -- I-25 northbound was closed between exit 173 to exit 184 from Larkspur to Castle Rock earlier Friday evening.

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) says the road was closed due to safety concerns and a crash.

Colorado State Patrol (CSP) confirmed there was a crash at around 5:45 p.m. near mile 181 on I-25 northbound. CSP says four cars, including a Kia, Hyundai, Lexus and International Harvester semi-truck, were involved. The semi's fuel tank ruptured, causing an unknown amount of fuel to spill onto the highway.

Four people were involved in the crash, with two taken to a local hospital with unknown injuries, CSP says.

The road was closed as a precaution due to the fuel closure and while officials deal with the crash. Drivers should expect delays in the area.

The road reopened around 8:40 p.m., according to CDOT. CSP advises drivers to look at COTrip.org for detours.

Video from CDOT showed some cars turning around and exiting the highway from the on-ramp. Video also shows law enforcement directing cars off the highway due to the closure.
