Man arrested for felony child abuse in Pueblo following infant injuries

PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) --A 33-year-old man has been arrested for child abuse after his four-week-old son suffered serious injuries, according to the Pueblo County Sheriff's Office (PCSO).

PCSO says dectectives arrested Brandon Impson on a no-bond warrant for felony child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury on July 15.

According to deputies, they responded to a local hospital after receiving reports that a four-week-old baby had suspicious injuries. PCSO says the baby had arrived at the hospital by ambulance after he reportedly had gone unresponsive at a home in the St. Charles Mesa area.

Court records obtained by KRDO13 state that officers were able to see bruises on the baby's forehead, finger, cheek, and buttocks. Officers were also made aware that the baby had a brain bleed and a leg fracture.

Both parents stated in the arrest affidavit that bruises on the baby's forehead were from Brandon and the baby accidentally bumping heads. Both parents also mentioned the other bruises were from accidents.

The hospital told law enforcement that it was believed by staff that the injuries were sustained by non-accidental means, according to records. When the mother was asked about the leg injury, she told PCSO she had no idea how the injury occurred.

Court records state that during an interview with Brandon, he told law enforcement that the lack of sleep he had been facing due to the baby being sick could have caused him to be too rough with the baby.

When law enforcement suggested that the bruises on the baby's face and buttocks were from Brandon being too rough while trying to console the baby, he alledgly told police, "Yeah, the butt and the face might be my fault." Police then addressed the leg fracture being from a pulling motion, and Brandon alledgly confirmed he lifted the baby's leg a little too roughly during a diaper change, according to the arrest affidavit.

According to law enforcement, the baby was stabilized before being taken to a Colorado Springs hospital for further treatment.
