Man accused of recording women and children in restroom of Tacos Del Gordo in Fountain
FOUNTAIN, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Fountain Police Department says that it has charged a man with criminal invasion of privacy. He is accused of recording women and children using the restroom at Tacos Del Gordo off Fontaine Boulevard.
According to police, they were called out on Tuesday after a woman reportedly found a cell phone, which was actively recording, in a ceiling vent of the women's restroom.
Officers identified the suspect as 24-year-old Jose Armando Rodriguez Tolentino, who was an employee at the time of the incident. KRDO13 called the restaurant. The manager on duty said that Tolentino had worked at the restaurant for a couple of months as a cook, but has been fired.
According to the police department, they believe the phone was recording from around 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 9, until about 12:20 p.m. when the phone was reportedly located.
KRDO13 spoke with people in the Fountain area who siad they are not only shocked, but disappointed.
"It's really surprising to me to hear that something like that could happen. We've enjoyed the establishment for so long, it's really disappointing and really scary," said Amanda Winters, a previous customer.
The Fountain Police Department says that they believe Tuesday was the only day an alleged illegal recording took place.
"I mean shock… It's right next to our place of work, and it's a place that me my colleagues go every week at least-- Sometimes even every day," said Ashton Lumberg, who works at a nearby business.
Police say Tolentino faces a misdemeanor charge of criminal invasion of privacy. Police say he received a summons and was released, so KRDO13 is unable to obtain a mugshot because he was not booked into jail.
The owners of Tacos Del Gordo tell KRDO they are devastated — and that the actions of one former employee do not reflect their family-run business or their values.
"We understand that this is a serious matter, and we do not diminish any feelings or stance -- he is no longer associated with Taco Del Gordo. Please know that we are a family of respect and want our customers to feel nothing but safe at our establishments. We would like to apologize to everyone affected," said Cassandra Orozco, the manager at Taco Del Gordo at 5180 Fontaine Blvd in Fountain.
They also added that they appreciate the public's concern and appreciate support from their loyal customers.
