Two hospitalized, stretch of southbound I-25 reopen after vehicle-motorcycle crash near Bijou
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) – Southbound I-25 was shut down from Fillmore to Bijou Thursday night after a vehicle-motorcycle crash that hospitalized two, according to Colorado Springs police.
According to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD), the crash happened at around 7:52 on July 10, on I-25 near Rockrimmon Boulevard.
Witnesses told police that a vehicle had hit a motorcycle and continued to drive, dragging the motorcycle until it wrecked near the Bijou exit (mile marker 142).
Medical personnel arrived on the scene and transported the motorcyclist to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries, CSPD said.
The driver of the vehicle, a small pickup truck, was also taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
CSPD says an initial investigation by its Major Crash Team indicated that the small truck had indeed collided with the motorcycle. The collision caused the motorcycle rider to be ejected, and the truck driver continued southbound while dragging the bike until it wrecked near the Bijou exit.
It's unclear if the truck driver will face any charges at this time. The investigation into the crash remains ongoing, CSPD said.
