Marty’s Friday Evening Forecast – 2/7/2020
Overview: The part of the Jet Stream that has kept the persistent bands of moderate to heavy snow falling across parts of the area will finally shift east bringing the recent snowfall to an end. Saturday should be dry and warmer but another wave will likely bring some snow back to parts of the area starting Sunday. The pattern looks very active next week with cool air, periods of wind and occasional chances for at least some light snow at times into next weekend.
Tonight: The snow will end everywhere with gradual clearing through the night. By morning most areas will have cooled into the teens with a few areas near the mountains possibly holding in the 20s.
Saturday: Becoming mostly sunny, breezy and warmer. The air overhead would support 50s and 60s for most areas but much of the sun's energy will go into melting the fresh snow. Where the snow was significant the temperatures will probably remain in the 40s, but for areas that didn't receive much snow 50s are more likely.
Extended: Another cold front will arrive on Sunday and likely cause snow to develop starting as early as Sunday morning for some areas. Additional accumulations of snow look lighter than our most recent storm, but it will be cold and breezy so even light accumulations of snow could re-whiten roadways and ring another period of slick travel to the area. A weak upper-level wave may be close enough to keep scattered snow showers in our forecast for residents that live on or near our local mountains Monday although most areas will probably just be partly cloudy and breezy. It looks as though we'll have a cool, active pattern into next weekend with temperatures generally near or below average and occasional chances for some snow. Right now snow chances look most likely on Thursday and then again perhaps as we head into next weekend, but we'll need to track subtle waves closely throughout the week.
