One woman shot, another woman located injured nearby local elementary school
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) - The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) says officers responded near Kingsley Drive Monday afternoon over reports of a shooting.
When they arrived, they found one victim lying in a baseball field located near Twain Elementary School with a gunshot wound. Police say she has non-life-threatening injuries.
Police say another person was found in a nearby home. Neighbors report the woman looked visibly injured and was taken to the hospital by ambulance. That woman, according to police, had multiple injuries.
District 11 officials confirm nearby Twain Elementary School went on secure status on Monday afternoon. Secure status means no one would be coming in or out of the building. District officials say students have since been picked up under what they call a "safe dismissal."
Police say the woman in the house and the woman found in the baseball field knew each other.
On Tuesday, police told KRDO13 that the woman who was found in the baseball field has been identified as Hannah Viramontes. They say she is recovering from her gunshot wound, but has been charged with kidnapping and sexual assault.
Police say they have identified the woman found with injuries inside the nearby home as the victim in this case. Police say she is not facing charges at this time.
Details are limited at this time. KRDO13 is looking to learn more on how the suspect in this case sustained a gunshot wound, and what her connection to the victim who was found in a home was.
