The Pueblo West girls basketball team’s success has been in the making for quite some time
Pueblo West is one the best teams in the state. Yeah, they've got a lot of talent but the formula to their success is their chemistry. The seniors on the team have been playing together since sixth grade and some since first grade, "It's crazy because you remember your first grade practices. You remember bits and pieces of it but you never imagine that you'd get here. You never imagine that you'd be a senior. We're finally here and it's all-or-nothing. It's crazy. It's unbelievable," says Pueblo West center Shae Gallery, Taylor Dabovich adds, "We're like a family. We work together. We gel together. We've been together so long so we know how each other works, They've accomplished so much together over the years but they haven't won a championship together, "We've gone to the final four together. We've gone to the sweet-16 in eighth grade, but we've never actually achieved the big goal together. I think with it being our senior year, it'll be fun to be able to get that state championship and that's our ultimate goal," says Jorden Ross. "It hurts when you lose that close game. It really does, but that only makes you better. It makes you come out the next year ten times harder," says Dabovich. "We're all very hungry. We want it bad. We've worked so hard for it. Lots of teams have too, but I think we need it," says Hannah Simental. Their time together is finally coming to an end, but they're also the best they've ever been and this could be their year, "I feel like it can be. I feel like it should be. This is our year," says Maya Sanchez. "I think we have a really good shot. We work well together, we get back on defense, we pick up the things we do wrong, and we hold each other accountable," says Dabovich, "Now it's even more important because every game could be our last. I'm just taking it all on in and enjoying the moment while it's still here," says Simental.
