Potentially damaging winds Friday
Today: Mostly cloudy skies with temperatures in the low 40s this afternoon in Colorado Springs. Wind gusts to 25mph. Moisture streaming in from New Mexico and Texas will graze the far southeastern corner of Colorado after 11am. A light rain/snow mix is possible in Springfield and Lamar making for slick road conditions with minimal snow accumulation.
Friday: A mid-level low-pressure system will pass through central Colorado late morning and early afternoon. Bringing snow to I-70 and the high country and strong winds to the front range and plains. Wind gusts likely 45mph-60mph from 12pm-4pm along the I-25 corridor. The National Weather Service is mentioning tree damage and power outages will be possible. The wind direction will be straight out of the west, making for strong crosswinds on north/south-oriented roads, light and high profile vehicles will be at risk of blow overs. So far this morning, only High Wind Watches are in effect for Friday afternoon in western Douglas County and areas west of Denver. Don't be surprised to see more warnings and watches pop up throughout the day today.
