Businesses evacuated due to gas Leak on North Santa Fe Avenue in Fountain

FFD

FOUNTAIN, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Fountain Fire Department (FFD) asked the public to avoid the area of North Santa Fe Avenue as crews responded to a gas leak Tuesday around noon.

FFD tells KRDO13 that Black Hills Energy was working in the area when they noticed a leaking gas line. As a precaution, two active businesses were evacuated, and the nearby Fountain Middle School was put on a shelter-in-place.

Both northbound and southbound Santa Fe were shut down from W. Alabama Ave to Dale St, as crews worked to contain the leak safely.

The gas leak was stopped shortly after 1 p.m. and evacuations were lifted.
