El Paso County flu numbers ramp up
This year's flu season has been ramping up with tons of people in our state getting sick.
Local area UCHealth hospitals saw 51 hospitalizations of the flu so far. Overall this season, 59 percent of the hospitalization cases have been the influenza B strain.
According to the El Paso County Public Health, between Sept. 29, 2019 and Jan. 4, 2020, 108 people were hospitalized in El Paso County for the flu. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that as of Dec. 28, 2019, there had been at least 6.4 million flu illnesses, 55,000 hospitalizations and 2,900 deaths from flu this season.
As of Dec. 31. 2019, El Paso County Public Health had administered 976 flu shots this season. It’s not too late to get vaccinated. Get your flu shot today and protect yourself and those you love!
