Road reopens after multi-vehicle rollover crash in northeast Colorado Springs

KRDO

UPDATE: Two drivers were cited after two separate rollover crashes in the same area.

Just after 8:45 a.m on Saturday, the Colorado Springs Public Safety Communications Center received multiple calls regarding a rollover traffic crash near Powers and Union Blvd.

When the Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) arrived, they located an overturned pickup truck.

According to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD), the pickup truck was traveling southbound on Powers Blvd. over Union Blvd. right before it slid to the right/west side of the roadway and rolled down the southbound Powers Blvd. on-ramp.

CSPD says while crews worked to free the person in the pickup truck, a second vehicle slid again from southbound on Powers Blvd. and rolled partially down, toward the first crash location.

They say both crashes seem to be related to a sudden change in the weather (freezing fog). They do not believe drugs or alcohol appear to be a factor.

Officers say one driver was taken to a hospital. The condition of that driver has not released at this time.

They say the other driver was assessed on scene and did not need further medical care.

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) was then contacted to apply anti-slip material to Powers Blvd. over Union Blvd.
