Pikes Peak International Hill Climb will not have motorcycle program in 2020
The Pikes Peak Hill Climb board of directors decided Friday to not include the motorcycle program in the 2020 Pike Peak International Hill Climb event.
The decision to cancel the motorcycle program in 2020 comes as a way to gather data and analytics to review the impact on the event with the absence of the motorcycle portion.
The board and staff will continue to track metrics to make a final determination in late 2020 about whether the inclusion of a motorcycle program will take place in the coming years.
Motorcyclist Carlin Dunne died in this year’s Hill Climb race.
Tom Osborne who is the chairman of the Pikes Peak Hill Climb, says motorcycles have been a part of the race for the past 29 years. However, the motorcycle program hasn’t been an annual event.
“They [motorcycle program] have run 41 of the 97 years we’ve been racing on Pikes Peak. It’s just time to take a hard look at every aspect of the race, including the motorcycle program and determine whether or not the event may change,” Osborne said.
