Colorado Springs Children’s Hospital officially open

The ribbon cutting for the first pediatric-only hospital in Southern Colorado will be held Wednesday at 11:00 am.

After a year and a half of construction, the Children’s Hospital Colorado of Colorado Springs on Briargate Parkway stands at nearly 300,000 square feet with around 100 beds.

Margaret Sabin, President of Children’s Hospital Colorado, says this is a monumental step for the city: “It’s a fundamental measure of how much we value our children here in Colorado Springs.”

Children’s hospital patient Kaden Ford got treated at the Denver location for more than 10 years. He says, having the hospital closer to home, could mean life over death for so many. “A lot of times the emergencies call for quick, available access. So, having that quick access can save lives,” said Ford.

Before the hospital was built, Colorado Springs was one of 3 cities, out of the top 80 metropolitan areas, without a pediatric hospital.
