Motorcyclist dies in crash in northern Colorado Springs

A man is dead following a motorcycle crash on Rangewood Dr. Friday night.

Officers responded to the scene shortly after 9:00 p.m and pronounced the man dead on the scene. The identity of the man has not been released.

Further investigation revealed that a large group of motorcycles was traveling southbound on Rangewood Dr. approaching Briargate Blvd., when of the motorcyclists failed to negotiate a curve in the road, and struck the right-hand curb.

The man, who was wearing a helmet, was ejected and died on the scene.

At this time, there is no indication that speed or a speed contest were factors in the crash.

This is the 23rd traffic fatality in Colorado Springs this year, and the fifth fatal crash that involves a motorcycle. There were 25 traffic fatalities at this time last year.

The investigation is in the early stages. Anyone with information is asked to call Colorado Springs police at (719)-444-7000.
