Price doubling at Barr Trail parking lot in Manitou Springs

The price to park at the Barr Lot in Manitou Springs is about to go up in an effort to get more Incline hikers to use the free shuttle.

Parking at the lot near the base of the Manitou Incline and Barr Trail will be increased from $5 to $10 per day beginning May 6, according to the city’s senior planner.

There are a few reasons for the increase, which is going back to the rate that the Barr Lot charged about two years ago.

The move aims to encourage hikers to use the free shuttle or walk up to the base of the trail; that will ease congestion along Ruxton Ave. It’ll also raise more revenue for “programs and improvements supporting the hiking public,” according to the city.

If you want an incentive to get to climb up to the Barr Camp, hikers can get a $5 refund coupon for each day of paid parking at the camp.

The free shuttle has multiple stops throughout Manitou Springs, and there’s a free parking lot at 10 Old Man’s Trail.
