Colorado Springs firefighter resigns after exposing himself inside store

A Colorado Springs firefighter praised for being a hero has stepped down after being accused of exposing himself inside a store.

Bo Hutchinson, a 17-year veteran of the fire department, has been in the news before. He was profiled by a local newspaper for his heroism in the Planned Parenthood shooting and Waldo Canyon fire.

But that same man found himself on the front page again, this time accused of exposing himself inside a retail store.

According to police records, Hutchinson was arrested in December at Hobby Lobby off of Powers for exposing himself and masturbating in front of young girls.

Hutchinson told police he was shopping for Christmas presents when a “blowout” happened, tearing a hole in his pants exposing his genitals.

The store manager called police after seeing what appeared to be Hutchinson touching himself.

Police also reported finding personal lubricant in his pocket and another pair of pants in his car. The report also states a pair of women’s underwear was also found in his car.

After the incident, police did not release an incident report to the public or post any relevant information to the police blotter. KRDO NewsChannel 13 did not learn about the incident until Thursday after Hutchinson’s resignation was made public.

But Hutchinson isn’t the only firefighter to have been arrested within the past few months. You may remember Roger Stambaugh who just weeks ago pleaded guilty to child pornography charges.

If convicted, Hutchinson could face up to 18 months in jail.

The fire department says he resigned from his job as a firefighter in February.
