Red light camera program in Colorado Springs to start ‘very soon’

After months of delays, the Colorado Springs Police Department says the red light cameras being set up at intersections will be up and running very soon.

There are four locations where the cameras are set up at:

North Carefree Circle & Academy Platte & Chelton Dublin & Academy Lexington & Briargate Blvd.

While the cameras look like they are being used, the city says there are still some things that need to be worked out before they are operational.

They still have to install more cameras at the North Carefree Circle location. Lt. Howard Black with CSPD tells us they are still talking to property owners to get permission to build the machines.

While he couldn’t tell us when the cameras will be up and running, he did say it will be happening “very soon.”

Black said that when they do start, they are giving a month grace period when the cameras will be working but the department won’t ticket drivers so they can test out the cameras. Also during that grace period, only two of the intersections with red light cameras will be operational.
