Families clean after blizzard uproots trees in Colorado Springs

Families were left with no choice but to clean up the mess that Wednesday’s blizzard left behind in Colorado Springs.

Chainsaws have been the only signs of relief for Mayra Hansen and her 80-year-old parents after a tree landed right at their door. But their car was crushed, leaving them with no way out.

“It blocked their exit from the house. They have no power at this time and they haven’t since [Wednesday] and my mother is disabled and wheelchair-bound so she’s not able to get out of the house,” she said.

Unfortunately they’re not the only ones who were left without power for a majority of Wednesday and Thursday.

It’s been hours for many who were forced to use generators to keep themselves warm.

“Their house is about 50 degrees inside,” Hansen said.

But the list of damage continues. We found tree after tree on the tops of homes. Patrick Wells was not immune that same damage.

“The wind gusts came up strong enough that it split the tree in half. One half of the tree went this way and you can see the other half of the tree went this way,” he said.

Lucky for him, his home isn’t the most damaged on the block, but his neighbors can’t say the same.
