Six Coloradans missed Mega Millions jackpot by single number, new jackpot reaches record high

Six people who purchased Mega Millions lotto tickets in Colorado were just one number away from winning the $1-billion jackpot Friday.

According to The Denver Post, a ticket that was purchased in Parker and one purchased in Denver were each worth $20,000. This means four of the five numbers on the ticket were a match to those that were drawn, Colorado Spokeswoman Jennifer Churchill confirmed in an email.

Four other tickets purchased in the state — one in Colorado Springs, one in Elizabeth, one in Northglenn, and one in Fort Collins — were also pretty lucky. They each earned $10,000. This means each other the winner’s tickets matched four of the fives numbers and the Mega Ball also matched, but they did not have a multiplier, according to The Denver Post.

As for the Powerball, according to the Colorado Lottery website, on Saturday, October 20, two winning tickets were sold worth $50,000 a piece and one ticket sold in Colorado Springs was worth $100,000.

The Colorado Lottery tweeted about the winnings on their official Twitter page breaking down were each other winning Powerball tickets were sold.

They said the $100,000 ticket was sold at the King Soopers on S Academy in Colorado Springs. A $50,000 winning Powerball ticket was sold at the 7 Eleven on E. Louisiana in Denver and another one was sold at the 7-Eleven on Dahlia Street in Commerce City.

Even with all these winnings, an official winner was never picked. Because of this, the new Mega Millions jackpot for this upcoming Tuesday has jumped up to an unbelievable $1.6-billion.

The Colorado Lottery says this is the largest grand prize in history. The Powerball jackpot was also not won, pushing that up to $620-million for Wednesday’s drawings.
