UPDATE: Colorado Parks & Wildlife determines bear attack at state park was falsely reported

After conducting an investigation, officers with Colorado Parks and Wildlife have determined the woman and her dog who was allegedly attacked by a bear Wednesday at Gold Gate Canyon State Park, was actually not.

Officers say a search over the two-acre plot of land around Coyote Trail, just northwest of Denver. and did not find any “evidence of wildlife active in the area”. They also interview the woman, whose name has not been released.

She originally told police she was attacked, but was able to walk down a trail to an ambulance. The woman was taken to Saint Anthony Medical Center at 1:40 p.m. Wednesday.

CPW has not released any other information regarding the attack or what caused the woman to report she had been injured. The trail has since been reopened following the incident.

While no attack happened, Jason Clay, a spokesman for the wildlife department, tells The Denver Post that bears are more active as fall begins because they are trying to eat up to 20,000 calories a day in preparation for winter hibernation.
