Former Fremont County deputy pleads guilty to stealing from crime scene

A former Fremont County deputy pleaded guilty to theft, official misconduct and tampering with physical evidence Monday after stealing silver and jewelry from a crime scene.

According to Canon City Daily Record, all three of the charges stem from a theft from a crime scene earlier this year. Christopher Pape, 30, who is free on a $1,000 personal recognize bond, could be facing a sentencing range of probation to three years in the Department of Corrections.

Deputy District Attorney Thom LeDoux said the plea agreement calls for Pape to admit to the circumstances and in turn, a few of Pape’s initial charges of attempting to influence a public servant and abuse of public records will be dropped, the Daily Record reported.

Pape will also be required to pay nearly $6,000 in restitution to the family of the victim for the items that were allegedly taken from the crime scene: two silver dollar coins, a bracelet, and two silver ingots.

Authorities say Pape was allegedly helping Fremont County detectives investigate the “suspicious death” of 76-year-old, Kenneth Orchard on May 22 at his home on Pinion Avenue.

According to the Canon City Daily Record, Pape was hired with the FCSO as the marijuana enforcement officer back in October of 2013, and was fired a few days after his arrest in June.
