Colorado Springs veteran asking for financial support after dog “Goose” consumed clothing
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) - A veteran in Colorado Springs is raising money for his dog after veterinary bills started stacking up.
Robert Hamburger's dog "Goose" ate a flannel and started having re-occurring health issues that landed him in the ICU after veterinarians discovered it had impacted a large portion of his intestines. Goose needed surgery to remove ten inches of the intestine that had died due to an adhesion.
"I just moved, so I didn't have any savings. I feel like I've kind of failed them a little bit. He kind of saved me when I got out," Hamburger said.
For Robert Hamburger, who retired from active duty in the Army as a field medic, his dog Goose is a support system as he re-adjusts to civilian life.
"I'm super happy that I've had Goose to keep me from that statistic," Hamburger said.
He went on to say Goose has kept him company during lonely nights readjusting to civilian life when he knows many veterans don't have any support and often struggle with mental health after they come home.
Hamburger said that the current vet bills total around $15 thousand dollars. To donate to his GoFundMe, click here.
