Pueblo man stunned, arrested after allegedly stabbing woman

Pueblo police were able to safely arrest a man who allegedly stabbed a woman and then charged at officers, threatening to kill them.

It started when the victim walked into a convenience store on the east side of Pueblo at about 2 a.m. Thursday with a stab wound on her chest, according to a news release. Police officers arrived and got the name of the suspect: Daren Levar, 28.

Pueblo police didn’t give details of what led up to the stabbing. The victim wasn’t identified, and it’s unclear how she knew Levar.

Police found Levar at the intersection of Bonforte Blvd. and Hunter Drive, a block away from the convenience store. (MAP) When officers arrived, Levar put his hand “in his waistband and yelled ‘shoot me,'” according to the news release.

Levar then charged at the officers and said he was going to kill them, police said. The news release says “officers deployed a Taser” on Levar and he fell to the ground. It’s not clear if multiple officers discharged their stun guns or if it was a single officer.

After falling to the ground, Levar “quickly jumped up and took off running,” police said. However, officers were able to arrest him safely.

Levar was booked into the Pueblo County Detention Center on a charge of first-degree attempted murder with domestic violence.

The victim suffered internal bleeding from the stabbing and was set for surgery later Thursday, police said. An update on her condition hasn’t been released.
