Marty’s Saturday Morning Forecast – Cooler With Spotty Storms – 6/30/18

Today: Partly cloudy, breezy and cooler today with spotty showers and thunderstorms developing this afternoon. The cold front will change the wind direction enough that we’re hopeful the smoke in the air may decrease a little today, but it is still quite hazy this morning across the area. High temperatures will reach the 70s to lower 80s around the Pikes Peak Region, middle to upper 80s along the Arkansas River, mainly 70s for the mountains. Storms that develop along and east of I-25 could approach severe criteria late this afternoon and this evening with large hail and damaging wind gusts the primary threat. Any stronger thunderstorms could produce brief downpours and frequent lightning as well.

Tonight: Stronger thunderstorms will continue to drift eastward this evening and eventually exit the state and/or end, then partly cloudy with spotty, lighter showers possible through about midnight. Expect low temperatures to fall into the 50s for the plains, mainly 40s over the mountains.

Extended: Starting Monday the air will dry out and start warming up again, and most of next week looks very warm with only slight chances for spotty thunderstorms, mainly over and near the mountains. Thursday might be the most active day for thunderstorms, but Independence Day could feature spotty storms over and near the mountains as well. Storms next week probably won’t be great rain producers, but brief downpours, gusty wind and frequent lightning could accompany storms at times.
