El Paso County Sheriff’s race: Elder edges out Angley for Republican bid
On Tuesday, El Paso County voters decided that incumbent Sheriff Bill Elder will run against Democrat Grace Sweeney-Mauer in the race for sheriff in November.
At last check, Elder received about 57 percent of the votes, defeating his opponent, retired Col. Mike Angley for the seat.
“We are disappointed in the results but we understand that the people of El Paso County have spoken and they’ve cast their vote and they’ve made their decision,” said Angley, following the announcement of the results.
Elder, on the other hand, was ecstatic to learn the results and says his focus is on the future.
“Outstanding day. We worked really hard to run a positive campaign and this came out exactly how we thought it was going to come out,” said Elder, “I’m excited to keep the push on. I’ve got a four-year plan that I want to put out for the next term and we are ready to go back to work.”
It will be up to the voters now to see if Elder will keep his seat in the November election.
