Training emergency exercises at Colorado Springs Airport begins Sept. 28

Colorado Springs Airport

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO)-- The City of Colorado Springs, the Colorado Springs Airport, the Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD), the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD), and the Pikes Peak Regional of Office of Emergency Management are planning to conduct a full-scale exercise at the Colorado Springs Airport.

The exercise will be held on Thursday, September 28, from 9-12 p.m., and it comes in accordance with the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) regulations which mandates airports conduct these types of full-scale exercises every three years.

During this time, travelers and nearby residents are being advised that they may notice an increased presence of emergency vehicles and personnel. Smoke and/or flames in the airport’s vicinity will be present as well.

The City of Colorado Springs stated they plan to inform passengers and visitors about the exercise during its duration. They will display signage in the concourse, indicating that an exercise is in progress and there is no need for concern.
