Colorado Pumpkin Patch in Monument is staying open

MONUMENT, Colo. (KRDO) - It’s fall and officially pumpkin season! The popular “Colorado Pumpkin Patch” in Monument is staying open after violating its El Paso County Permit.

When the Colorado Pumpkin Patch originally opened, it was under a county pumpkin permit that only allowed 50 vehicles on the property. 

However, as the pumpkin patch grew in popularity, the number of vehicles soon exceeded that limit. This pushed homeowners living in the area to file complaints to El Paso County.

The county’s code enforcement then cited the pumpkin patch for violating the permit, saying it exceeded the vehicle limit.

This forced the Colorado Pumpkin Patch to make its case to the El Paso county commissioners  - asking to allow up to 325 vehicles on the property at one time.

The owner of the pumpkin patch, J.D. Chapman, said it took about 11 months for the process to play out, but the green light was given - allowing the vehicle limit to go from 50 to 325. 

Owners say they hope to get access to Highway 105 in the future to relieve traffic going through sub-divisions in the area.

The Colorado Pumpkin Patch is open Wednesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. and Friday - Sunday 9 a.m. - 5 a.m.
