Evacuees return to home following the toxic tire fire in El Paso County

The remaining evacuees have returned home following the toxic tire fire caused by the Carson- Midway Fire. Residents were finally given the “all clear” from the EPA.

KRDO spoke to one evacuee who says he was able to save his horses but not much else.

“[I’m] pretty stressed out right now. It’s, ah nerve wrecking, not sleeping much. It’s like everything is on your mind right now trying to deal with everything you can’t focus on anything,” says Dave Vervaecke. He and his wife have lived near Midway Ranch for more than two decades.

Vervaecke says his family lost nearly 90 % of their land and belongings with their house taking much of the damage.
