Colorado Springs man accused of throwing multiple Molotov cocktails at homes

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) - A Colorado Springs man was arrested after allegedly throwing multiple incendiary devices at homes in the Briargate neighborhood.

Between July 25 and Aug. 20, CSPD said several homes in the 5300 block of Balsam St. and the 600 block of Scout Dr. were hit by "incendiary devices," commonly referred to as "Molotov cocktails." One house on Balsam St. was damaged multiple times. Two houses on Scout Dr. were each hit one time.

On Aug. 20 at 2 a.m., officers responded to the area of Stellar Dr. and Fossil Dr. after someone reported someone had thrown Molotov cocktails at homes. At the scene, officers found a man who had a possible incendiary device. The regional explosives unit responded and took over the investigation.

CSPD arrested the suspect, later identified as 21-year-old Richard Macklin. He was charged with 1st Degree Arson and Possession of an Incendiary Device, both felonies.

According to CSPD, the investigation is handled in cooperation with the Colorado Colorado Springs Police Department and the Colorado Springs Fire Department. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Colorado Springs Field Office also provided technical expertise and resources. The Federal Bureau of Investigation provided additional coordination and assistance.
