Fort Carson soldier killed in Afghanistan
The Department of Defense has identified the soldier killed in eastern Afghanistan Monday as Sgt. 1st Class Mihail Golin, 34.
Golin was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group out of Fort Carson
The Pentagon says four other soldiers were hurt in Monday’s battle. Two are in stable condition, and the other two have returned to duty.
His father spoke with our affiliates in New York, telling them Golin came to the US at 20-year-old and immediately wanted to join the US military.
David Golin says in his last conversation with his son, he said he told him he loved him and wished him a happy New Year.
The incident is still under investigation.
The US formally concluded its combat mission in Afghanistan in 2014, but still carries out operations against terrorist groups.
Two other brigades from Fort Carson will head to the region in this spring.
